Frequently Asked Questions

How often do therapy sessions occur?

Generally, I start with weekly sessions with a new client for the first 4 weeks. This helps with getting to know each other better and building rapport for us to do the work together. After 4 sessions, the frequency of our sessions will depend on your needs and severity of your concerns. If you are not needing weekly sessions, I do offer every other week sessions. I only offer monthly sessions for ongoing clients that have done some work with me and are tapering down sessions in preparation to end therapy.

How many sessions will I need to feel better?

This depends on your particular situation and goals for therapy. Many clients report starting to see positive changes in about 3 months after starting therapy. Some clients may need at least 6 months to 1 year to learn and reinforce skills learned in therapy, and/or to work through chronic stressors or trauma. Therapy is more effective when clients use what they learn in between sessions, and provide feedback to the therapist on how therapy is going. I encourage you to schedule a free consultation with me so that I can better understand your goals and provide an estimated timeframe for sessions.

Do you offer online therapy for clients residing outside of California?

I am a California-licensed psychotherapist, which means that I can only provide mental health services when the client is physically located in California. If you live in California but often travel out of state/country, we may need to assess your needs and explore a more flexible schedule of sessions when you are physically in California. I am not able to provide phone or video sessions if you are physically located out of state.

Do you take insurance?

I am currently paneled with Optum, United Healthcare, and Lyra insurance. I may show up on your list of in-network providers for other insurance companies, however this was due to my previous work at a group practice. I am an out-of-network provider for most other insurance plans (see below under out-of-network insurance).

What are your out of pocket rates?

Intake Assessment:

  • $225 (60 minutes online)

  • $250 (60 minutes in person)

Individual Therapy:

  • $200 (55 minutes online)

  • $225 (55 minutes in person)

Family Therapy:

  • $225 (55 minutes online)

  • $250 (55 minutes in person)

I believe in promoting access to therapy services. Please reach out if you are needing help with session fees. We can discuss options that may fit your budget or explore getting reimbursed for out of network therapy sessions. Limited spots are available for reduced fee sessions based on financial need, full time student, or employment status. Please email me for more information!

Can I use my out-of-network insurance?

If you have a PPO plan with out-of-network insurance benefits, your insurance plan may be able to cover a portion of the session costs. Please let me know before we start sessions if you would like to use your out-of-network insurance.

To make sessions more financially sustainable for my clients, I utilize a billing system called Thrizer to help my clients save money while using their out-of-network insurance. Before the first session, Thrizer will provide you with a breakdown of your out-of-network benefits. After each session, Thrizer submits a claim on your behalf and deposits any insurance reimbursements directly into your account. For more information, visit their website: https://www.thrizer.com/

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA cards only. Statements for HSA/FSA accounts can be provided on request. I do not accept cash or checks.
